When Do We Recommend Dentures for You?
Dentures are artificial teeth that are used to replace your natural teeth that have been lost. Sometimes, we advise replacing all teeth in the mouth (full denture) or just some (partial denture). Dentures are usually made from a material called acrylic, which is a type of plastic. There are several reasons why someone might require dentures, which include the following:
- You have lost all of your natural teeth due to decay or injury.
- If periodontal disease makes the gums and bones around the teeth deteriorate. In severe cases, this can lead to tooth loss.
- People who underwent surgery to remove cancerous tumors from their mouths may also need dentures.
Wearing dentures can take some getting used to, but they are typically very comfortable once you get used to them. It is essential to take care of your dentures by cleaning them regularly and avoiding foods that are hard to chew. With proper care, your dentures can last for many years.
What is the Process for Getting Dentures?
Initial Consultation: The first step is to schedule an appointment with our dentist or prosthodontist specializing in dentures. We will also discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and any concerns or expectations you may have.
Taking Impressions: Once it is determined that dentures are the best option, we will take impressions of your mouth and teeth. This involves making molds or digital scans of your mouth that will be used to create a custom-fit denture.
Creating the Dentures: The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where the denture will be created. The lab will use the impressions to create a wax model of the denture, which our dentist will use to check the fit and make any necessary adjustments. Once the fit is perfect, the lab will create the final denture.
Fitting the Dentures: When the denture is ready, we will schedule an appointment to fit the denture. We will also provide instructions on how to care for and clean the denture.
After you receive your dentures, you will need to schedule follow-up visits with our office to ensure that the dentures continue to fit correctly and to address any concerns or issues that may arise.
